The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of water fluoridation on the
solubility of primary teeth enamel.
The enamel solubility was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
The following results were obtained ;
1. Primary teeth enamel from an area of water fluoridation had a reduced solubility in
acid as compared to primary teeth enamel from fluoride-free areas.
2. Primary teeth enamel exposed to fluoridated water from prenatal period showed a
statistically significant reduction in acid solubility as compared to primary teeth enamel
from fluoride-free areas (p<0.05).
3. Primary teeth enamel exposed to fluoridated water after eruption showed a reduction
in acid solubility as compared to primary teeth enamel from fluoride-free areas, but no
statistically significant reduction(p>0.05).
4. Acid solubility between primary teeth enamel exposed to fluoridated water from
prenatal period and primary teeth enamel exposed to fluoidated water after eruption
showed no statistically significant difference (p>0.05).
